What is Medicine of One?

Medicine of One is a circle formed from many influences.

It shares much with the predecessor of all religions and spiritual traditions ~ shamanism, an earth-based spirituality. Shamanism is everywhere on the earth people have inhabited. It was born from the First People of these lands.

“This path has been a living thing that has grown over half of a century of my life and twenty-five years of helping others live in their truth. In the last two decades, I can say with clear honesty it has allowed me to have peace and to continue to enjoy my love of being while continuing to keep rooting myself each day in something greater that can only be described as the great mystery. It is in this honoring I share what has allowed me to give in to the flow of this mystery and to never give up even in my darkest days, weeks, months, and years”

I pay homage to all wisdom born from the earth in our search for meaning and truth. All of them inevitably base themselves in compassion. Compassion is the Circle of Medicine of One. I haven’t created anything. I have listened to what vibrated with the sound of truth until these collected notes formed a song. You hold that song in your hands. May it strike a chord in you that helps you come home to yourself. ~ From the Medicine of One ~
The land of my Circles is a land resonant with 12,000 years of human history. Before the Yavapai and Tonto Apache lived here, it was the ancient land of the Hopi. Slightly to the North are the Navajo, whose stories of the land and living at the center I also resonate with. The wisdom of all these First Peoples exudes from the land and joins with the Eastern traditions of Hinduism and Buddhism in my Circle, which also have their shamanic origins.

The Search: Who Am I?

“Deep in our hearts there lies a source. It can be likened to the center of a circle, from which we can see in all directions, and then from which no other position can give us such a vantage point. This is also called the Path of Inner Silence. It is the Medicine of One.”

Go directly to the source of all truth in your spiritual center of silence, your heart; for the shortest distance between two points is a direct line, and a mystical truth lies hidden behind this geometrical axiom. Accept it, and the Direct Path is already beneath your feet. There is no need to seek it elsewhere. ‘A single step begins the journey of a thousand miles’, but if this first step is not taken, the traveler will remain at his starting point.

Without the knowledge of ‘who we are’ we remain spiritually immovable.

The Direct Path can be likened to a mighty river, quietly and majestically flowing to the infinite ocean of Nirvana, Brahman, the ultimate and unique aim of every being. Yogas, religions, sects, philosophical systems, occult and spiritual societies, all can be thought of as minor streams flowing into and yielding up their waters to the same great river, and from then onwards having the same straight course to the ocean. Whoever knows of the hidden Direct Path will not waste time following lesser ways. All efforts will be concentrated on the one idea ‘How to enter the great current which flows directly to the ocean.” Mounu Sadhu
Any and all labels applied to me throughout this web site are keywords to help you find what you are seeking. They are nothing more than that. In the end, this “i” that we sometimes cling to so desperately does not exist. It is nothing but the movement of thoughts and the process of thinking. Seek this thinker and what you will find is nothing but big sky, an oneness through which everything moves, your thoughts, your emotions, your body, your very soul. What is real is the dark background of being, The Great Mystery that the images of the mind project onto. No different than the very screen you stare at now. This thinker is similar to the question “Who am I?” above superimposed over the light. But even the light shines forth from the background of this beingness.

Everything changes… that is the one certainty in life… Hang on to what you think you are, what you do, what you own, what has been and you suffer. The tightness of the grip is the measure of the fear and becomes the measure of the suffering. This fear is most often what is unfinished in our Soul’s history. A history that transcends what you call your present life. Who you are now is the temporary personality. You can think of the Soul as your permanent personality. So all this unfinished business is like Old Dreams in the underworld that create the world we live in. We often believe it’s happening to us, but it is this unconscious designing force that is creating our world.

There is nothing to seek but the seeker. You can not find what you already are and have never lost. Nor can you name it, define it, hold onto it. For me, this is essential to the shamanism and spirituality that I embrace and practice. You must constantly question all the assumptions about yourself and note with a smile when the small “i” finds safety, pleasure, power, and value in anything that comes from without and inflates the little i.

I

This big I unites the sky and the earth. In being what you are in truth you are the Medicine of One. Inquiry, meditation, discussion, and teaching is a component woven in throughout the retreats and some tour experiences, depending on individual needs. Each person brings a new world to be present with. We embark together to the circle within that is the Medicine of One, for The Circle Lives Within Us .
